Where We Are
Design Essentials is now located in its new store on 7 Market Row, Saffron Walden, Essex, CB10 1HB.
Saffron Walden is a picturesque, medieval market town, in north west Essex, just 14 miles from Stansted Airport, 56 miles from central London, and just 20 miles from the historic university city of Cambridge.
We are easily reached from :
– London via the M11 (exit junction 8, initially follow the signs for A120 Hertford, then B1383 for Saffron Walden).
– Cambridge, exit the M11 at junction 10 and follow the signs to Saffron Walden (A505, A1301, B184).
– Colchester, stay on the A120 beyond the M11 roundabout (signposted Hertford), follow the A120 at the next roundabout, then at the next roundabout, take the B1383 signposted Saffron Walden.
Parking in Saffron Walden
There are many parking options in Saffron Walden which has a number of both long and short stay car parks. All offer FREE parking on Sunday’s and Bank Holiday’s and Disabled badge holders can park for free all day when displaying a valid disabled badge in any of the following car parks.
The Common (short stay)

3-minute walk – cross at the zebra crossing, go straight ahead through Rose and Crown walk, walk over the Market Square towards King Street, take the first left at Burtons Butchers, and take a left again.

2-minute walk – go straight ahead through Rose and Crown Walk, walk over the Market Square towards King Street, take the first left at Burtons Butchers, and take a left again.
Fairycroft Road/Waitrose car park (short stay)

3 hours maximum stay
2-minute walk – walk down the walkway at the side of Waitrose, turn left along Hill Street, cross at the zebra crossing, walk through Market Walk in between Bicicletta and Janet Riley, and the shop is 10 metres to your right.
Catons Lane (long stay)
49 spaces, 2 disabled spaces
Up to 10 hours free parking Monday-Sunday
8-minute walk – walk up Catons Lane, turn right at the Victory pub, walk past The Common down Common Hill, turn right into Rose and Crown walk, walk over the Market Square towards King Street, take the first left at Burtons Butchers and take a left again.
Swan Meadow (long stay)
394 spaces, 8 disabled spaces
Up to 10 hours of parking
10-minute walk – walk down Park Lane, cross the road opposite The Cross Keys pub, continue down King Street, take the first right turning and then turn right again.
Disabled Access
Our new Design Essentials shop is accessible at the front via stairs only with a narrow doorway at the top, but there is a second level access point from the street to the first floor via a wide single door at the back of the store.
